I could get into a huge philosophical discussion right about now (especially after reading other reviews, in particular the negative ones) but I will spare everyone this. Ethical choices are made throughout, in the simply question kill or not kill. After that it is a trip though the wastelands, dealing with the inhabitants, and eventually to the condemned man's goal, a structure of uprised arms with a shrouded female statue inside. This begins the journey through the Hell-bound castle, and meeting its various denizans. Of course, the condemned man does not wait around for that. (Dark, very dark, in tone.) The condemned man is told this in his jail cell by the horned guard, who also informs the condemned man he (the guard) will back to torture him. Story: The condemned arrives with a fellow prisoner at a castle specifically designed for torture, torment, and purging souls of their evil through pain, suffering, and grief. But even that would be a stretch.) Has a moralistic tone of more right vs wrong, then good vs evil. (Adventure because it does fall into any other catergory, not really, other then maybe supernatural. A point and click not so adventurous "adventure" game. This game is dark, despondent, despairing and depending on how one defines horror, it could be that too. If you're interested in a dark fantasy game with a rich world, good story, and solid puzzles, then I think you'll be disappointed. Honestly, I think they could've just sold this as a digital artbook and charged quite a bit more.Īs stated at the beginning of this review, if you're interested in the artwork, then it's definitely worth the price. As interactive artwork, it's quite creepy and grotesque and beautiful. It was short, easy, and had a basic story that seemed to only be there as an excuse to show off the artwork. The dialog is fine, and there are some notes and journal/book pages that give you some background, but it never felt like there was enough.Īs a game, I feel like it didn't deliver. At the end of my first game, I honestly cared very little for the main character. I expected much more because of the high quality of the art. The only puzzles that can't be immediately solved happen to have a hint on a scrap of paper nearby. If you're an achievement hunter, three runs is the most you'll need to get them all.Īs for the puzzles, they're extremely basic. My first game took me around two hours (probably a bit less, but I kept AFKing so I can't say for certain) my second game only took me an hour (I made the opposite choices as the first game and skipped all previously read dialogue). If you are more interested in the gameplay, I think the game is overpriced.
